Cronic Care

Pans/Pandas

Did you know infections can change behavior?

After infections, like strep, your child can develop neurological symptoms resulting in drastic changes to their personality such as oppositional behavior, OCD, tics, severe anxiety, and significant changes in their handwriting? This can happen weeks or months after and be difficult to diagnose. Families often see more than TEN providers prior to diagnosis and treatment resulting in frustration and inconsistency in care.

Fortunately, our team is trained not only to identify the disorder, but we are the most experienced team in treatment. Tara Fox, DNP has been treating the disorder since 2010 and has treated hundreds of patients! She has worked with facilities all over the US including premier clinics like the CPAE Clinic at the University of AZ, the NIH, and John Hopkins. Her current research has brought steps towards developing a nationally recognized screening tool to educate primary care providers and encourage early diagnosis. Working with local and national universities, she is on the cutting edge of treatment and works alongside neurologists, immunologists, developmental pediatricians, PhDs, and other primary care providers to ensure care for the whole family.

We understand the struggles, frustrations, and impact on both the child and the child’s family.

You may be asking:

“How is my child going to get to school?”
“Why can’t my child follow directions or excel like they used to?”
“What if they “flare up” or things get worse?”
“What are my options for treatment because traditional therapy and medications are not working for their anxiety/OCD/ADHD?”

These are all valid concerns and we can help!

If you know someone, or you believe someone in your family is suffering from PANS/PANDAS, contact us at 317.660.0888 to learn more about diagnosis and treatment from the most qualified experts in Indiana!

Not sure if your child has PAN/PANDAS, but have other health concerns not addressed by your current healthcare provider?

Lyme Disease

What is Lyme Disease?

Lyme disease is an infection caused by different strains of the invasive spirochete bacteria known as Borrelia burgdorferi, Bb, named after a doctor who identified the bacteria in 1982. It is an acute or potentially chronic debilitating disorder which can manifest a very wide range of symptoms.

How Do People Get Lyme Disease?

It is transmitted most commonly via the bite of an infected tick (deer tick or lone star tick). It can also be transmitted during pregnancy, sexually, and occasionally from other insects.Infected ticks often carry and transmit other bacteria and parasites (such as Babesia, Bartonella, Erhlichia, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Anaplasma, and more). Tick bites are nature’s dirty needle.

Early symptoms may include fever, headache, fatigue, rash and more. If left untreated, later symptoms often fluctuate in intensity and may include all of the early symptoms and also joint pains, anxiety, tremors, seizures, dizziness, vision loss, shortness of breath, blood pressure variations, heart arrhythmia, abdominal pain, constipation, insomnia, extreme weakness, neuropathy, muscle cramps, psychosis, loss of periods, miscarriages, increasing food sensitivities and allergies, autoimmune diseases (like ulcerative colitis and Hashimotos thyroiditis), nausea and vomiting, and much more, which of course results in severe disability and possibly even death.

Syphilis is caused by a type of spirochete bacteria and is “Lyme’s dumb cousin” – Lyme is a much worse infectious disease than syphilis because it exists in 3 different virulent forms and will infect any cell in the body! The disease is named after the towns of Lyme and Old Lyme Connecticut, where a number of cases were identified in 1975.

Consider whether you or any family member has had a tick bite or significant tick exposure or Lyme disease symptoms. Make an appointment with an Excell for Life provider to discuss.
