Autism Awareness for Adults and Kids
It is Autism awareness month.
Autism is a developmental disorder characterized by difficulties with social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior.
This can be one of the most difficult diagnosis’s a family can receive, especially because it is a spectrum disease. Everyone learns differently than others. Some require more patience, understanding, and love. Autism can often require a good mix all three of these. Caring for our autistic community requires this foundational knowledge. Understand that we are all on a sort of learning “spectrum”.
What is it like to have Autism?
There are countless blogs on sites like: https://autismawareness.com/ that share some of the beauty and some of the heartbreak that goes along with living with someone on this spectrum.
How can we help kids learn about Autism?
Sesame Street has a newer character Julia who has Autism. Watch this with your children and discuss how to value all people, even those who are different from us.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. – 1 Corinthians 13:13
