Dr. Lisa Prepping for The Plan!
Here is my equipment for The Plan!
We begin Tuesday! A quality scale (like this yunmai smart scale with body fat scale) for weighing yourself daily, a good basal body temperature thermometer like this iProven thermometer, and “The Plan” book are the most important tools you’ll need for your journey with me. Follow my instagram stories on The Plan!
There are 2 tests you must do before beginning:
Spying Systemic Yeast:
One of the things that can mysteriously and frustratingly prevent us from losing weight is a systemic yeast problem.
TESTING YEAST (This works since yeast feeds on sugar and fermented foods): Set aside one day and include in your daily menu wine or beer, balsamic vinegar, and chocolate (or a dessert you love). The next morning upon wakening check your tongue. If it is coated in white, it’s a sign yeast is an issue for you.
Fix a Systematic Yeast Issue
The best way to counteract yeast a high quality probiotic. Take 2-4 Ortho Biotic daily for one week and then you can start The Plan (occasionally some will need to see your provider to work more intensely against yeast). You don’t need to retest as we will do that on Day Four, and we’ll keep an eye on yeast throughout The Plan. If you stay within your own body’s guidelines you learn from “The Plan” (and avoid those foods that cause you inflammation), you’re likely not going to have a yeast problem in the future!
Testing Your Thyroid
The author of The Plan says that about 80% of women and 10% of men age 40 or older have thyroid issues. Here is how to find out if you do:
For 3 days before beginning “The Plan” keep your digital thermometer by your bed and take your basal body temperature (BBT) while laying very still for 2-3 minutes (any activity will raise your temperature). A consistent reading of 97 or lower is indicative of an under-active thyroid (common symptoms are fatigue, inability to lose weight, depression, feeling cold, digestive problems, low sex drive, hormonal imbalance, skin conditions).
If you do discover that you have may have a thyroid issue, please call us at 317-660-0888 and make and appointment with one of our functional medicine providers.
