Ajah’s Story: Part 1
I feel like I’m already pretty healthy, and I know almost everyone can lose a few pounds, but my primary reason for joining the Excell BE WELL challenge, is to focus on heart health. I really want to prevent cardiovascular disease, and I know diet and exercise are the key to preventing this terrible disease that runs in my family. My goal is to live to be at least 80 and live WELL at 80!
I haven’t really changed too much with my routine. I run 4 times a week for exercise–usually with my St. Bernards, do yoga, and try to stay fit, and I eat pretty well too—I like fresh fruits and veggies, lean proteins and avoid processed foods.
My strategy is to stop snacking all the time and to do a better job avoiding sweets and sugar. I’m just going continue to eat my healthy diet, but focus on portion sizes and making sure I don’t eat too much. During a busy day, it’s easy to grab an unhealthy snack or lunch, but I’m going to be prepared and armed with yummy, healthy snacks instead. I want to be an inspiration to my family, especially my daughters and my patients and lead by example.
