A Slice of Joe’s Life
OK Doctor Lisa, you were right. “Ouch” that admission is difficult for this proud male to make. I am sure this is going to end up in cyber space for all of the world to read but it is a testimony that I must give so here goes.(Before pic–click to see After!)
You said that I was fat (in so many words) what I heard was that I was pleasingly plump.
You said that I needed to change my diet and exercise, what I heard was you wanted me to give up the 2 or 3 hours of snacking if front of TV every night. (I love that food stained recliner)
You said that I needed to do this before I develop type 2 diabetes and to stop some other bad things that were manifesting inside of me. I didn’t hear that part but I thought you said the word heart. (I was eating a very crunchy Kit Kat bar during that conversation)
You said the same things to me for years and I didn’t hear you. During a visit this spring, you ended it by saying that you would pray for me. What I heard was that you care about those you minister to (one of them being my equally plump but still lovely wife) but what good would prayer do?( I have some chips in the car to make me feel better.) The rest of the day I couldn’t let go of those words but I didn’t know what to do with them. That night I said a prayer before I went to sleep.
How did this happen?. Just about 24 hours later I found myself joining Weight Watchers. (Why in the world was I doing that?) Not to be out done, my wife joined too. (Another mystery to ponder)That was 7 months ago.
What just happened? My beginning weight was 247 (I am 5’8”) present weight 185 my waist was 44” now it is 33”. Today Dr. Lisa started reducing my BP meds and soon she will eliminate one completely. I am not foolish enough to tell you my wife’s stats but together we have lost over 100 lbs. (OK maybe Dr. Lisa’s prayers had something to do with it)I can’t mention the changes in what goes on when the lights go out but oh how sweet it is.
My belief’s from 6 years experience as her patient
Dr Lisa is the real deal. She is open and honest. When you talk to her she listens and she really cares. If she is your doctor, visit her often. If not, you need to change doctors. The thing I admire the most about her is the fact that she was willing to stand up alone and say that she wanted to do it her own way (and is doing it splendidly).
EXCELL FOR LIFE is not a run of the mill family practice. It is a model of what family health care practices will all evolve into eventually. It is 21st century and is not looking back. They offer a variety of choices that allow you to participate in your own wellness.
There are no cookie cutter treatment plans. The staff is highly trained and is friendly. They offer educational classes and have an interactive web site. This is situated next to a fitness center and they offer the services a personal trainer. I could go on and on.
Thanks Lisa and Bruce
