The Sword of the Spirit
Sometimes, we get asked what kind of Bible is it that we use. A really good Bible is a spiritual tool that no Christian should go without.
I (and Lisa) really like the NIV Application Study Bible from Zodervan. It is very complete with all of the maps, concordance, Old Testament – New Testament cross references. It is a very good translation and just modern enough with proper reverence (my editorial opinion).
There are some other very good devotional bibles as well. Lisa uses one that a patient gave her called: Every Day with Jesus Bible.
We like to look up passages we are studying in different Bible translations to get a wider perspective and understanding of God’s word and wisdom.
“The Message” Bible is a very modern and easily understandable Bible. We also have a New King James Bible, and Holman Christian Standard Bible.
Lisa often carries with her to read and review the “NIV and Message Parallel Bible”, and says she always likes to think of the Bible as God’s book of love to us!
Choosing a Bible is a spiritual task. If you already have one, but would like to purchase another version or two to study, these are all very good ones that we recommend.
If you do not have a Bible yet at all, then you may want to consider visiting a Christian book store and get to know a few of the translations before making a decision.
We sometimes take for granted the fact that we live in a country that even allows us to purchase Bibles. The Bible is the word of God and this derails some countries’ regressive standards of living. All people have the right to access God’s word and benefit from the wisdom that is in it. Pray about it.
I hope this helps!
