Dr. Allison Newsom - Excell for Life

Dr. Allison Newsom

Allison Newsom, M.D. is originally from Tennessee, where she completed her B.S. in Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Tennessee in 2002. She began her pursuit of medicine with the unique opportunity to work as a research coordinator with the Rena Rowan Breast Center at the University of Pennsylvania’s Abramson Cancer Center. She worked daily with patients who were encountering newly diagnosed cancer, undergoing active treatment, celebrating remissions and persevering through relapse. Over the course of that year, it was evident God was fostering a passion in her to care for others by providing healthcare, healing and hope in a tangible way through the practice of medicine. This experience was the catalyst for her going back to school and obtaining her Medical Doctorate from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 2008.

She met her husband, Nick, while in medical school and 4 weeks after becoming newly-weds, they moved to Indiana for residency training. She completed her Residency in Internal Medicine/Pediatrics from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2012. Since that time, Dr. Newsom has been on mission providing primary care services for both adults and children in underserved communities throughout downtown Indianapolis with Healthnet, Inc. and has also participated as a volunteer physician for Hope Healthcare Services, an outreach ministry in Avon, IN. While in training and practice, her family has grown to include three beautiful girls, Alaina (7), Caroline (4) and Gwendolyn (19 months).

“My scope of practice includes pediatric well care and development in addition to adult well care and chronic conditions. My special interests within medicine include breastfeeding education, newborn mother/baby care, adolescent health and general pediatric/adult care for patients with special needs. I am beyond excited about joining Excell for the opportunity to provide compassionate care in a faith-filled environment that focuses on the whole health of the individual.”

When not in the office, you can find her enjoying the “little things” in life like spontaneous kitchen dance parties with her girls, Netflix hang out time with Nick (especially if it involves throw-back movies before 1970), Refit workouts, singing Hillsong ANYTHING in her car, and helping teach contemporary/modern dance with Renovate Dance Center. She and Nick are active members of Traders Point Christian Church and have been fortunate to be a part of mission teams to Kenya and Jamaica since 2012.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. – Ephesians 2:10
